Case Assessment

Most cases will require some kind of adjustment to the overall arch form. These arch movements usually fall into four categories.

•Distalization

•Mesialization

•Lingualization

•Expansion

Types of Movements

The overall movement of an arch is determined by the types of movements made by the individual teeth in that arch.

For instance, in a case where the upper incisors are crowded, you might tip the upper incisors by 1 mm. This would expand each of the upper quadrants by approximately 1 mm, thereby adding a total of about 2 mm of space to the upper arch. This is just a rough calculation.

Of course, every case is different so treatments are tailored to the individual requirements of the case and the outlined parameters.

Rotation

For high levels of rotation the use of attachments ensure the aligner has a high retention level to complete the movements required.

Intrusion & Extrusion

Intrusion and extrusion of teeth will require the placement of anchors. For high levels of Intrusion and extrusion it can be done in conjunction with adding composite and trimming of the teeth post aligner completion to reduce treatment time and cost.
